DPM: Schools, PTAs have no right to deduct from RM100 aid

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he will personally look into claims that a school's parent-teacher association (PTA) took half of the RM100 government aid meant for students.

He stressed that the money was meant to go directly to the students or their families, and neith ...er schools or PTAs have the right to make any deductions to the aid.

"This should not be done. If deductions are made right from the start, it could cause misunderstandings.

"I urge school administrations to deliver the money in full," he said at a press conference after launching the Rakan Sekretariat Hal Ehwal Bandar (SHEB) programme in Setiawangsa, Wednesday.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, was responding to an allegation raised during a question and answer session during an earlier event, when an individual claimed that the PTA of a school in Setiawangsa had made such deductions.

While he urged the school in question to return the money to the students, Muhyiddin acknowledged that there are schools that needed additional funds.

"If there is a need (for more funding), discuss it with the parents,” he said.
